Lights On Afterschool 2022

Hundreds across Idaho and thousands across the nation, celebrated the power of out-of-school time (OST) programs, on October 20, 2022.

2021 Lights On Regional Champions

Northern Idaho - Barb Mueller is a co-founder of Gizmo-CdA – a nonprofit makerspace in Coeur d’Alene. The mission of Gizmo is Empowering Through Doing. Because of Gizmo, youth in North Idaho have access to technologies, programs and new tools to build the future. Barb and her husband Marty are retiring this year, leaving an incredibly important legacy to the community.

Fremont County - Dana Miller is the face of 4-H in Fremont County. She is masterful working with youth, building their life skills, and supporting the volunteers in her community. Young people dealing with all types of isolation were helped this year by Dana’s concerted effort to tailor the program to recognize each person.

Wendell - LeeAnn Gonzales was nominated by Wendell’s 21st Century Learning Center program because she always goes above every day and with any age group. During summer school, she led her youth group to success with the highest attendance and enthusiasm for next year’s program.

Hansen - Suzann Dolecheck has led quality youth programs in Twin Falls county for many years, partnering with the Hansen 21st Century Community Learning Center’s afterschool program to offer STEAM enrichment for students across all grade levels. Suzann directed the 4-H Shooting Sports/Hunter Education SPIN project. She found funding to support afterschool partnerships, led mentoring for high school and college interns and is now working to build long-term financial sustainability for afterschool program.

Nampa - Luis Granados, Exective Director of Breaking Chains Academy of Development (BCAD) helps youth complete their GED/HSE. Luis Granados entered (BCAD) as a student before becoming a mentor and a tutor. Luis is one of two full-time staff who work tirelessly to ensure that there is always food, essential supplies and understanding role models.

Caldwell - Deja Brown always goes above and beyond for the children in the Caldwell YMCA Kids program. She makes sure they have fun activities and materials and stays after hours to make sure everything is in place for the next day. She loves this program and the families involved which shows in her hard work and dedication!
