University of Idaho Extension AmeriCorps Positions Throughout Idaho

SUMMARY: Increase academic interest and engagement in STEAM subjects and improve social-emotional development of underserved youth aged 5-18 yrs through Positive Youth Development out-of-school time programs.

MEMBER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: AmeriCorps is America’s National Service Initiative. Through AmeriCorps, individuals of all ages and backgrounds address the nation’s education, public safety, environment, and/or human needs through service. The mission of AmeriCorps includes: getting things done, strengthening communities, encouraging responsibility, and expanding opportunity.

Idaho 4-H AmeriCorps members contribute to this effort by: Teaching, leading, and facilitating youth development curriculum in STEAM based out-of-school time programs; Facilitating family engagement events; Serving as mentors and role models. teaching important life skills, and giving youth positive opportunities to explore the world around them in a fun, engaging, non-formal learning environment; Engaging new volunteers in their local programs to serve as 4-H leaders and event volunteers.

Idaho 4-H AmeriCorps members will also submit regular progress reports and evaluate programs according to instruction, participate in required community service learning projects and trainings and provide support and development of community partnerships.

Idaho 4-H AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator will contribute to this effort by: Recruiting and training volunteers who will develop and deliver training for new and returning youth robotics coaches throughout Idaho, as well as collaborate with staff, fellow AmeriCorps members, and partner organizations to develop and support FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge Competitions through member and volunteer recruitment and training.

Idaho 4-H AmeriCorps members will also submit regular progress reports and evaluate programs according to instruction, participate in required community service learning projects and trainings and provide support and development of community partnerships.

Additional duties of this position will include: Obtain FIRST Head Referee or Judge Advisor Certification (one volunteer will obtain each certification) through FIRST and serve as point of contact for other key volunteers at multiple events throughout the State.
