IDAHO'S STEM AMBASSADORS

PARTNERS FOR WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

The TMC Works Project is an Idaho Workforce Development Council Innovator Project. It is led by the Idaho Out-of-School Network in collaboration with youth programs across the state.  

Youth Teaching Youth: This project will place STEM Ambassadors in out-of-school programs and train STEM Supervisors to lead activities using the Think Make Create mobile makerspace curriculum. STEM Ambassadors will work directly with youth and lead hands-on activities.

PROJECT DETAILS

STEM Ambassadors will receive a $750 stipend for completing training and an 80-hour pre-apprenticeship in an afterschool and summer youth program.  The project will build youth self-confidence and increase success in future jobs in youth development or STEM-related careers.

No previous experience is required to become a STEM Ambassador. Any participant or employee of an Idaho afterschool or summer youth programs may apply. Applicants must be at least 14 years of age and available to serve 100 hours (between July 2024 and December 2025) for training and placement hours.

STEM Supervisors at TMC Worksites will also receive on-the-job training and a one-time stipend ($750) for participating. Supervisors will help recruit and supervise STEM Ambassadors and help coordinate site visits to other places of employment and special projects.

WE ARE GROWING  ION still needs additional "teen-oriented" youth programs to serve as TMC Worksites. Funds are available for cost recovery. For more information contact ION TMC Coordinator, Amy Post.

STEM-oriented businesses are encouraged to contact TMC Worksites above or ION staff to explore wys of engaging STEM Ambassadors in the workplace. Together we can made sure that in the future, all kids in Idaho have equal access to STEM skills and career pathways.
