Feb 6, 2024 – Meet Sophia, 2024 Million Girls Moonshot Flight Crew from Boise, Idaho
Borah High School student, Sophia, is most interested in computer science. But that is just one reason she is Idaho’s representative to the Million Girls Moonshot program. Sophia is also active in out-of-school projects like the Women’s Children’s Alliance and the Girls Who Code program. She has already received the Borah Senator’s Choice Award, and National Hispanic Recognition Award for her leadership.
Sophia also says: “My STEM programs have introduced me to hands-on robotics and coding, which have helped me develop my problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. These programs helped me develop critical skills and ignited my passion for technology and engineering, demonstrating the impact these programs could have and the importance of increasing participation in STEM as technology innovation is our future.”
As one of 51 Flight Crew members, Sophia will be an ambassador for STEM education and learn skills in public speaking, advocacy, social media, and leadership. Her work will inspire girls around the country to pursue afterschool STEM. Flight Crew members will meet together at the Girls Build 2024 conference in San Diego, California — an invaluable networking experience.
