K-12 Outreach Activities
The Department of Geosciences is eager to work with local teachers and classes to enhance Earth Science education in the K-12 community. , if you are looking for someone from the department to give a special presentation to your class, assist with developing classroom activities, serve as a science fair judge or advisor, speak at a career day, assist with Science Olympiads, etc.
Classroom Materials
A variety of materials have been produced within the geoscience department by faculty, staff, students and volunteers. These include field trip guides, lab activities, career resource materials, local geoscience content and related instruction materials. We expect the number and variety of items available for download on this site to increase each year. Please contact us with further specific classroom material requests and/or suggestions to improve our materials available.

The program will help students meet standards necessary for high school graduation and provide them with the skills necessary to succeed beyond high school.”
Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a federal program designed to help middle school/high school students and adults enroll in college or vocational technical schools and apply for financial aid. To qualify, students must either meet low income guidelines or be a first-generation college student. This program is offered free of charge to participants.

Upward Bound is a federally-funded program administered by Idaho State University designed to enhance the skills and motivation necessary for success in education beyond high school for youth of low-income families who are potential first-generation college students.
The program is divided into two periods of instruction: summer and academic year. During the summer, students come to Idaho State University for eight weeks to take classes concentrating on basic skill improvement in math, English, and science, as well as other courses. Students live on campus and participate in a variety of activities as well as study hall after classes each day. The academic year follow-up offers tutoring and advising to students on a weekly basis. Students are transported to Idaho State University for weekly study and tutoring sessions.

The goal of the Upward Bound Math and Science program is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science and to encourage them to pursue postsecondary degrees and ultimately careers, in math and science.
